John Jell

Dr. John Jell is an Honorary Professor at the School of the Environment, University of Queensland (UQ). His research focuses on geology, marine geology, paleontology, and coral reef studies, with a particular emphasis on carbonate sedimentology and stratigraphy. He has contributed extensively to understanding coral reef systems, including Heron Reef and Wistari Reef, and has published on topics ranging from Silurian corals to volcanic pumice dispersal mechanisms.

Key research interests include the geological evolution of coral reefs, fossil coral taxonomy, and the interplay between sedimentation and environmental factors. His work integrates field studies, laboratory analyses, and comparative geology to elucidate processes such as reef platform development, microbialite formation, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction.
