معرفی
Professor André Freiwald is a distinguished marine geologist and paleontologist at Senckenberg am Meer's Department of Marine Research in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. His work focuses on cold-water coral ecosystems, carbonate systems, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction across geological timescales.
Dr. Freiwald's research spans Marine Geology, Paleontology, and Paleoceanography with specific expertise in cold-water coral mound formation, biodegradation processes in marine environments, and responses of benthic organisms to environmental changes. His interdisciplinary approach integrates sedimentological, geochemical, and paleontological methods to investigate both contemporary and ancient marine systems, from the Silurian period to recent Plio-Pleistocene changes.
His current research portfolio includes leadership in "Marine forests of animals, plants and algae: Nature-based tools for protecting and restoring biodiversity" and participation in the Cluster of Excellence "The Ocean Floor – Unexplored Interface of the Earth." These projects reflect his commitment to understanding marine geological processes while addressing contemporary challenges in biodiversity conservation and climate change impacts.
Dr. Freiwald has directed numerous significant research initiatives including investigations of Devonian Old Red sediments on Svalbard, climate proxy extraction from Mesozoic sequences, and deep-water ecosystems in the Mediterranean. His work on carbonate mound genesis incorporates data from international ocean drilling programs, demonstrating his collaborative approach to marine geological research.
