Gregory Nagy serves as the Francis Jones Professor of Classical Greek Literature and Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University, having previously chaired the Classics Department (1994-2000) and directed the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington DC (2000-2021) while maintaining weekly teaching at Harvard's Cambridge campus.
His research specializes in Classical Studies with emphases on Greek Literature, Homeric Studies, and Comparative Literature, evidenced by foundational publications including The Best of the Achaeans: Concepts of the Hero in Archaic Greek Poetry (1979/1999), Homer the Preclassic (2010/2017), and The Ancient Greek Hero in 24 Hours (2013/2020), alongside co-editing Albert Lord's The Singer of Tales (2000 edition) with Stephen A. Mitchell.
Nagy's leadership at the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies involved overseeing Hellenic research initiatives and academic programs, reflecting his sustained commitment to advancing classical scholarship through both administrative roles and continuous teaching engagement.
