Dr. Gregory McManus serves as Interim Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Physics at Florida Gulf Coast University. With a PhD in Chemistry from the University of South Florida and a BS in Chemistry from the University of Prince Edward Island, he has established himself as a leading researcher in materials chemistry and crystal engineering.
Dr. McManus's research focuses on Metal-Organic Frameworks, Porous Materials, Crystal Engineering, Climate Change, and Crystallography. His work bridges fundamental chemistry with practical applications in environmental science and materials development. He teaches across the chemistry curriculum including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Materials Chemistry courses.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on ionic liquids, metal-organic frameworks, and crystal engineering, with applications spanning from drug delivery to environmental remediation. His research group has made significant contributions to understanding molecular interactions in complex systems.
Dr. McManus has secured substantial research funding including grants from the National Science Foundation, Argonne National Laboratory, and the Southwest Florida Community Foundation. His most notable recent awards include the NSF MRI grant for a Single Crystal X-Ray Diffractometer and a Community Impact Grant focused on combating climate change through student research.
As an administrator, Dr. McManus has been instrumental in developing undergraduate research opportunities and securing instrumentation that enhances the educational experience for chemistry students at FGCU. His leadership extends to mentoring students through multiple FGCU Seidler Student/Faculty Scholarly Collaboration Fellowships.
