Gregory A Guagnano

Dr. Gregory A Guagnano is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at George Mason University (GMU). He holds affiliate roles in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy, the Center for Global Studies, the School of Public Policy, and the Cultural Studies Program. He founded and directed the Northern Virginia Survey Research Laboratory at GMU. He earned his Ph.D. in Human Ecology from the University of California, Davis.

His research focuses on political economy of resource control, environmental sociology, and social psychology of environmental concern, alongside methodological expertise in research design and statistics. He has conducted cross-national studies using data from the European Consortium for Comparative Social Surveys, the Global Environmental Survey, and the International Social Survey Program.

Dr. Guagnano has received prestigious awards, including GMU’s Teaching Excellence Award (1995) and NSF grants. He has taught courses in Madrid, Spain and Florence, Italy through GMU's Global Education programs. His work emphasizes the human dimensions of environmental change and technological innovation diffusion.
