Greg Schutz is a Teaching Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan, within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). He specializes in creative writing and fiction, with a forthcoming book Joyriders (University of Massachusetts Press, 2025). His work has appeared in literary journals like Ploughshares, American Short Fiction, and Alaska Quarterly Review.
Education: B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from Tulane University; M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan's Helen Zell Writers' Program.
Research & Awards: Recipient of the American Short(er) Fiction Prize, Pushcart Prize nominations, and fellowships from Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. His stories explore themes of redemption, identity, and regional culture, often set in the Midwest.
Teaching: Currently teaches multiple sections of ENGLISH 223: Creative Writing and ENGLISH 323: Creative Writing: Fiction. Office hours: M/W 1–2 PM in Angell Hall 4173 and Tuesdays via Zoom.
