Graham Thornicroft is a Professor of Community Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, and a Consultant Psychiatrist at South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He serves as Director of NIHR Applied Research Collaboration South London, King’s Improvement Science, and chairs Maudsley International and Human Rights and Mental Health (F-GIP).

Research & Expertise encompasses stigma and discrimination, mental health needs assessment, cost-effectiveness evaluations, service user-led research, implementation science, and global mental health. His work focuses on translating policies into practice, particularly in low-income countries, and developing tools like the Camberwell Assessment of Need (CAN) and WHO’s mhGAP Intervention Guide.
Scientific Awards include:
- BMA Book of the Year Award (2007) for 'Shunned: Discrimination against People with Mental Illness'
- Baxter Award (2007) for 'Mental Health Policy and Practice Across Europe'

Current Projects include HOPE (homelessness in Africa), ALIVE (adolescent mental health in poverty), and ARC South London (applied health research collaboration).
