Graeme Nuttall OBE is a Visiting Fellow and Research Associate at the Centre for Mutual and Co-owned Business. He serves as an NCEO Fellow, Executive Fellow at Rutger’s Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing, and holds roles with Ownership at Work, the Institute for the Future of Work, and multiple employee ownership trusts. Formerly a partner at Fieldfisher (1988–2024), he advised the UK Government on employee ownership policy, notably producing the landmark Nuttall Review of Employee Ownership (2012) that led to statutory recognition of Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs). His work spans policy-making, legal frameworks, and international advocacy for employee-owned businesses.
Research focuses on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and the expansion of employee ownership models globally. Key contributions include drafting the Employee Share Schemes Act 2002, advising public service mutuals, and advancing Gandhian principles in ownership structures. He is a sought-after speaker and has delivered prestigious lectures such as the Gandhi Foundation Annual Lecture (2020).
Awarded the OBE for services to employee ownership and recognized with the Philip Baxendale Fellowship (2012), Txemi Cantera Award (2021), and Financial Times Innovative Lawyer (2013). His publications explore EOT legal frameworks, paritarian governance, and international policy adoption.
Advising includes governmental roles, trust trustee positions, and non-profit leadership. Current efforts prioritize global EOT expansion, cross-party wealth-sharing strategies, and sustainable employee-ownership practices. Collaborations with the NCEO and Employee Ownership Association further his mission to institutionalize employee ownership as a mainstream business model.
