Dr David Wren is a Senior Lecturer at the Sheffield Business School, part of the College of Business, Technology and Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University. He has been teaching since 2013 and leads undergraduate courses while instructing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including apprenticeships. His research focuses on the impact of employee ownership on workplace culture, organizational structures, and HR practices, driven by a self-funded PhD completed in 2016. He has organized international conferences such as the 2019 EMES and 2022 UFHRD events and has presented research in multiple countries.
Education: Holds a PhD, MSc, and BSc, along with ACIPD certification. His academic journey includes studies in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behaviour. Formerly, he worked in the IT sector as a Customer Service Manager at Royal Mail and a privately-owned American multinational.

Publications: His recent work analyzes employee ownership’s influence on recruitment/retention (2023), comparative ownership structures (2021), and cooperative culture (2020). Earlier contributions explored the FairShares model’s role in sustainable development (2018).
Scientific Awards: Received the HRM Student of the Year award (2010/11) at Sheffield Hallam University.
Advising & Grants: Supervised two completed PhD students (one as Director of Studies) and currently guides three more in Organisational Behaviour. His work has been supported by the Erasmus+ Project (FairShares Labs report, 2018). Research areas integrate practical industry insights with academic rigor, bridging theory and practice.
Labs/Teams: Affiliated with the Social and Economic Research Institute and contributed to FairShares Labs for Social and Blue Innovation. His current research explores employee ownership’s role in recruitment and retention strategies.
