Dr. Sami Adwan is an Associate Professor in Accounting (Accounting and Finance) at the University of Sussex Business School. He specialises in positive and capital market-based accounting research, focusing on fair value accounting, distressed firms, employee ownership, and corporate governance. His work examines topics such as share-based compensations, accounting information quality, and the impact of financial crises on corporate reporting.
Dr. Adwan holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Essex (2012–2016) and an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the same institution (2010–2011). He is fluent in Arabic and English, with expertise in peer-reviewed academic writing.
His research explores themes such as employee ownership’s influence on corporate investment efficiency, the predictive power of share-based compensation, and the value relevance of accounting metrics during crises. Recent studies emphasize European corporate contexts, including analyses of labor investment efficiency and non-executive ownership structures.
Dr. Adwan has secured a Leverhulme Trust grant (2022–2023) titled 'Understanding Workplace Democracy through Corporate and Employee Disclosures.' He teaches a range of accounting modules at Sussex, including Advanced Financial Accounting and Quantitative Methods for Accounting.
