Hao Lan is a Lecturer in Accounting at the Essex Business School, University of Essex. He holds a BSc in Sociology from Shandong University, an MSc in Accounting, Finance and Management (Distinction) from the University of Bristol, and a PhD in Accounting and Financial Management from King’s College London.

His research focuses on empirical corporate finance, with emphasis on corporate disclosure, financial text analysis, financial intermediaries, investment banking relations, and financial reporting. He is open to supervising students in these areas.
Hao Lan has published extensively in journals such as the International Review of Financial Analysis, Internet Research, and Industrial Marketing Management. His work explores ESG risk management, social media dynamics in finance, and impression management during corporate crises. Notably, he received funding from the British Academy for research on corporate site visits and capital markets.
He supervises PhD students in Accounting and Finance, including Ali Mahmood Buraihi Al-Aloosh, Jikai Xu, and Boyang Wang. His teaching responsibilities span courses like Financial Reporting and Analysis (BE110) and Issues in Financial Reporting (BE150).
