Minneapolis College of Art and Designمعرفی
Gracia Echeverria is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute and Visiting Instructor at Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) and Rutgers University. She holds an MFA in Communication Design from Pratt Institute and a Graphic Design undergraduate degree from Universidad Católica de Chile. Her work bridges environmental humanities and design practice, focusing on nonhuman perspectives in the Anthropocene and symbiotic futures. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in visual communication, cross-disciplinary studios, and thesis advising.
Key research interests include translating ecological phenomena (e.g., spontaneous vegetation, urban flora) into design frameworks, and fostering kinship between humans and non-human entities through collaborative projects. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes interdisciplinary methodologies and poetic responses to environmental challenges.
Since 2017, she has developed innovative courses like Nonhuman Perspectives in the Age of the Anthropocene (Pratt, 2021) and Symbiotic Futures (co-taught with Jean Brennan). Her creative projects include artist books such as Spontaneous Vegetation as a Framework in Design (2017 thesis) and Weeds (2016), exploring botanical metaphors in urban contexts. She collaborates with artists and cultural institutions on catalogues and exhibitions, including projects for Rafael Guendelman and Santos Chavez.
