Grace Komol is a Professor in the Curriculum Instruction department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Education. She earned her Ph.D. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from UAB, an M.Phil. in Educational Psychology from Moi University (Kenya), and a B.Ed. from Egerton University (Kenya). Her academic career spans over 15 years at UAB, progressing from Assistant Professor (2008-2016) to Associate Professor (2013-2020) and currently Professor since 2013.
Her research focuses on Comparative and International Teacher Education and the Well-being of Children living with HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. She collaborates with Kenyan institutions to address needs of children affected by parental AIDS and has presented her findings at the United Nations and international conferences. She also leads the UAB OMEP Chapter for child advocacy initiatives.
Scientific awards include being the first UAB recipient of the AAUW International Research Scholarship. She has advised numerous graduate students and served on dissertation committees, including chairing Alae Alibrahim's research. Her grants involve the UAB Public Health/Biomedical Research Training Program (NIMHD/NIH, 2013) and Enhancing Interprofessional Global Health Learning Opportunities (University of Alabama Health Services Foundation, 2012).
