Grace Cully

Grace Cully is a Research Fellow at University College Cork's School of Public Health, currently serving as a Post-Doctoral Researcher on the PRISM project which examines the impact of Ireland's national clinical programme for hospital-based self-harm assessment and management.

She earned her PhD from University College Cork's School of Public Health in 2020 through mixed-methods research on aftercare and repetition patterns following high-lethality, high-suicidal-intent self-harm incidents.

Her research spans the epidemiology of self-harm and suicide with specialized focus on healthcare service delivery for individuals with self-harm histories and co-occurring mental health conditions. Key contributions include:

• Over a decade of work (since 2014) with the National Suicide Research Foundation
• Leadership in national surveillance systems: National Self-Harm Registry Ireland and Northern Ireland Self-Harm Registry
• Development of prison-based self-harm assessment protocols through the Irish Prisons Project
• International collaboration in the SEYLE ('Saving and Empowering Young Lives in Europe') and MENTUPP consortia

Her work bridges clinical practice, public health policy, and correctional healthcare to optimize post-self-harm care pathways across hospital, community, and prison settings.
