Elaine McMahon is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Public Health, University College Cork (UCC), and the National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF) in Cork. Her research focuses on reducing inequities in youth mental health through examining social determinants of self-harm and suicide. She leads the EQUALISE Study, funded by the Health Research Board, and has contributed to international studies like SEYLE and CASE. Her work has been published in high-impact journals.
- Education: PhD in Public Health from UCC (2012), undergraduate degree from UCC.
Her research interests emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration to address societal and structural factors influencing youth mental health outcomes. Key areas include incidence trends, risk factors, and intervention strategies for self-harm prevention.
