Goudarz Molaei serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at the Yale School of Public Health. He is also a research scientist at the Center for Vector Biology & Zoonotic Diseases at The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES), where he directs the CAES Tick Testing Program for Lyme and Allied Diseases.
His research focuses on the ecology and biology of mosquito and tick vectors of human pathogens, with particular emphasis on their roles in enzootic and epidemic transmission of arboviruses and tick-associated diseases. Dr. Molaei co-teaches the Biology of Insect Disease Vectors course at Yale and actively collaborates on research projects related to vector-borne diseases.
His recent publications demonstrate expertise in vector surveillance, host-feeding behavior of mosquitoes, and the establishment of invasive tick species in new regions. His work has significant implications for understanding how climate change affects the geographic expansion of vector-borne diseases in North America.
Dr. Molaei's research has been featured in multiple news outlets covering emerging vector-borne disease threats, including the identification of rare exotic tick species in Connecticut, the discovery of invasive Longhorned Ticks as carriers of Ehrlichiosis pathogens, and the first human case of emerging tick-borne diseases reported in the Northeast.
He actively advises students at Yale School of Public Health and collaborates with researchers including John Anderson, Philip Armstrong, Theodore Andreadis, and Durland Fish on vector-borne disease research.
