Research Interests
Dr Thakur’s scholarship centres on the macroeconomics of developing economies, with a structuralist perspective on growth and distribution. His work explores how modern and petty service sectors interact with traditional agriculture to shape aggregate growth, how skilled-labour constraints affect long-run development, and how natural disasters such as floods transmit short-run macroeconomic shocks. He is particularly interested in profit-led growth regimes and the distributional consequences of fiscal and labour-market policies.
Recent Publications
Across his four key publications—spanning 2015 to 2025—Dr Thakur examines the interplay between structural transformation, labour markets, and macro performance. A 2025 journal article quantifies the short-run macro impacts of Indian floods, while a 2023 theoretical piece analyses services-led growth under skilled-labour shortages. Earlier empirical and modelling contributions investigate rural-urban migration driven by petty services and the macro implications of redistributive policies in dual economies.
