J Devika

J Devika is a Professor at the Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram, with a focus on gender, politics, and cultural history in Kerala. She holds a Ph.D. in History from Mahatma Gandhi University and has been recognized for her translations and feminist scholarship.

Research Interests

Devika specializes in intersectional histories of subaltern spaces, gender in Kerala’s political and cultural developments, translation studies, and contemporary gender politics. Her work explores the interplay between caste, cosmopolitanism, and environmental governance.

• Books: Authored/Co-edited 7 books on gender and development in Kerala
• Advocacy: Led policy notes on LGBTQI+ rights, tribal empowerment, and urban women’s inclusion
• Translations: Translated 12 Malayalam works into English, including K.R. Meera’s Hangwoman
