Glenn Ombler is a part-time Lecturer in Architecture at Manchester School of Architecture (MSA), a joint institution of Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester. As a core member of the Technologies Team, he leads BA3 Technologies Unit and delivers lectures/assessments in Structures, Construction, and Case Studies across undergraduate architecture programs. His academic role is integrated with professional practice as co-director of Ombler Iwanowski Architects, an award-winning Manchester firm he founded in 2001.
His research and professional specialization centers on building reuse and adaptive reuse, particularly for listed and post-war modern structures. This expertise manifests in projects like the Zenith Building (adaptive reuse of Manchester's former Post Office Headquarters, recipient of British Council of Offices and MSA awards) and the Droylsden Shopping Centre regeneration (refurbishing 1970s structures with new retail/residential units). His work consistently bridges heritage conservation with sustainable urban development across Manchester and Liverpool.
Ombler holds significant external roles including Deputy Chair of Manchester City Council's Historic Buildings and Conservation Areas Panel (2010-2021) and External Examiner at Leeds Beckett University (2020-2023). His professional portfolio features award-winning interventions such as the John Rylands Library Extension (RIBA award) and Museum of Science and Industry restoration (Civic Trust Award), demonstrating exceptional integration of historical context with contemporary architectural solutions.
