Glenn Gibson is a Professor of Food Microbiology and Head of Food Microbial Sciences at the University of Reading. He holds adjunct roles as Visiting Professor at Imperial College London (Institute for Global Health Innovation) and Northumbria University, with honorary positions in China and New Zealand. His research focuses on gut microbiology, probiotics, and prebiotics. He has supervised 85 PhD students and led over 145 research projects.
Education: BSc (Hons) and PhD from the University of Dundee. Awards include Highly Cited Researcher status since 2001, Web of Science recognition (48,569 citations, h-index 107), and top global rankings in microbiology (3rd in the UK, 27th worldwide in 2023).
Research emphasizes gut health, probiotics/prebiotics efficacy, and dietary interventions for chronic diseases. He co-founded the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) and the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Human Microbiome.
