Kieran Tuohy

Professor Kieran Tuohy serves as Professor of Energy Metabolism and Microbiome within the Faculty of Environment at the University of Leeds, where his work bridges nutritional science and microbiome research to investigate diet-health relationships.

His academic foundation includes:

He investigates dietary interventions for metabolic health, with emphasis on cholesterol management through microbiome modulation and sustainable food system development.

Professor Tuohy leads significant research initiatives including the National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre (NAPIC), SusProFood project optimizing plant-protein fortified functional foods, and synbiotic studies targeting ketogenic diet side effects. He mentors six active postgraduate researchers spanning microbiome and nutrition specializations.
