Dr. Glen Turley serves as Principal Engineer of Manufacturing Metrology within the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) at Coventry University, part of the Research Centre for Manufacturing and Materials. He joined Coventry University in August 2023 with the specific mission to bridge academic research and industrial applications in Metrology to address global challenges in sustainable and world-leading manufacturing.
His educational background includes:
- 1st Class Bachelors of Engineering from University of Warwick
- Master's of Engineering by Research from University of Warwick
- Engineering Doctorate in Manufacturing Systems from University of Warwick
Turley's research spans Manufacturing Engineering, Dimensional Engineering, and Metrology across multiple high-impact industries including Automotive, Medical, and Consumer Electronics sectors. His work directly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable industrialization and innovation. His expertise combines theoretical knowledge with practical industrial experience gained through senior roles at leading technology companies.
Analysis of his publication history reveals a strong interdisciplinary focus, with research bridging biomechanics and manufacturing engineering. His work shows particular strength in applying metrology techniques to both medical applications (orthopedics, cardiac modeling) and automotive manufacturing. The publications demonstrate consistent citation impact across these diverse fields.
Turley is actively engaged in research funding with two current projects: 'Power electronics Upscale for Localisation and Sustainable Electrification' (where he serves as Co-Investigator) and 'CERTUS' (where he serves as Researcher). These projects focus on power electronics, intelligent transportation systems, enabling technologies, digital simulation, and computer-aided manufacturing.
With extensive industry experience including 10 years in Silicon Valley at Rivian, Apple, and Tesla, plus prior academic work as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Warwick, Turley brings a unique industry-academia perspective to his role. His career began as a Technical Apprentice at Jaguar Land Rover, providing him with foundational manufacturing experience.
