Prof. Andrew Cobley is a Professor of Electrochemical Deposition at Coventry University, leading the Functional Materials Research Group. He holds a BSc from Portsmouth Polytechnic (1986) and a PhD in Electrochemistry from Loughborough University (2002). With over 20 years in industry (ITRI, BAe Systems), he pioneered metallization processes and PCB manufacturing systems. He is Principal Investigator of the €6M H2020 MATUROLIFE project, addressing textile-based assistive technologies for older adults. His research focuses on applied electrochemistry, sonochemistry, and sustainable materials science.
- Education: BSc (Portsmouth Polytechnic, 1986), PhD (Loughborough University, 2002)
- Research Interests: Electrochemical deposition, metallization of non-conductive materials, sonochemical surface modification, and functional materials.
- Key Projects: MATUROLIFE (H2020), Power Electronics Upscale for Localisation, and Textile-Based Electronic Skin.
Prof. Cobley has published >100 papers and holds roles as Fellow of the Institute of Circuit Technology and Chartered Chemist (Royal Society of Chemistry). His work emphasizes sustainable, scalable technologies with low environmental impact, particularly in smart textiles, additive manufacturing, and eco-friendly coatings.
Notable achievements include patents on metallization processes and leadership roles in EU-funded initiatives. His lab develops disruptive technologies for industries like electronics, healthcare, and environmental remediation.
