Glen Halva-Neubauer is the Dana Professor and Chair of Politics and International Affairs at Furman University. He specializes in US state and local government, abortion policies, and agriculture politics. A leader in engaged learning, he founded Furman's Mock Trial program (1995), developed a state/local government internship program, and established Top Mock (2001), a summer program for high school mock trial participants. He has served on the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) Board since 1999, including as its President (2012–2014). His research focuses on state-level abortion policies, particularly post-Dobbs decision responses in the South, and agriculture policies through his May Experience course Farm, taught on a family-owned Iowa farm.
Education: Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota; B.A. from the University of Iowa.
Research interests span abortion politics, state policy dynamics, and agriculture practices. His work bridges academic scholarship with civic engagement, notably through mock trial competitions and agricultural education initiatives.
Awarded Furman’s Faculty Member of the Year multiple times (1990, 1997, 1999, 2003), Liberty Bell Recipient (2001, 2009), and Advisor of the Year (1994). His contributions to mock trial education are honored in the AMTA Judges' Hall of Fame.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Farm May Experience program, fostering interdisciplinary discussions on global food systems, and oversees Furman’s Mock Trial team. Collaborates with legal and agricultural communities for policy research and civic training.
