Dr. Giuseppina Abignano is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine (LIRMM) within the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds. She also holds the position of Clinical Researcher and Honorary Consultant in Rheumatology at the Rheumatology Institute of Lucania (IReL), Italy. Her work focuses on biomarker validation for rheumatic diseases, particularly Systemic Sclerosis and Psoriatic Disease, with expertise in imaging and serum biomarkers.
Education: MD from the University of Naples (2006), Specialist Training in Rheumatology (2010), PhD in Immunology (2013), and Post-CCT Fellowship at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (2015–2017). She was awarded Honorary Lecturer status at the University of Leeds in 2016.
Research interests include skin imaging, validation of novel imaging techniques (e.g., Optical Coherence Tomography), and serum biomarker applications. She has contributed to international collaborations and presented work at major rheumatology congresses.
Awards: Six notable awards, including recognition from the British Society for Rheumatology and the Italian Society of Rheumatology. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and abstracts.
