Campanelli's research critically examines constitutional justice systems, inter-court relationships (Italian Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, European Court of Human Rights), and healthcare law domains including end-of-life decisions, informed consent, and medically assisted procreation. His work extends to judicial protection of fundamental rights, state secrecy protocols, fiscal federalism frameworks, and local governance structures, demonstrating significant interdisciplinary reach between legal theory and medical ethics.
He actively contributes to major research initiatives including a national PRIN project on fiscal federalism and the Ministry of Justice's "Agile Justice" PON project. Institutional engagement includes membership in the Italian Association of Constitutionalists, the Interdepartmental Center for Bioethics, and editorial roles for journals such as "Corti supreme e salute" and "Diritti regionali".
Teaching responsibilities span Constitutional Law, Italian and Comparative Judiciary for law students, and Public Law courses for medical degree programs including specialized modules on healthcare self-determination and ethical communication. He directs the annual Advanced Training Course in Constitutional Justice and serves on the Doctoral Program in Legal Sciences Teaching Board.
