Giuliano Russo

Dr. Giuliano Russo is a Senior Lecturer in Global Public Health at Queen Mary University of London's Wolfson Institute of Population Health, specializing in global health economics and health systems in low-income countries. He holds a PhD and has extensive experience spanning academia, public, and private sectors, including roles in Portugal, Mozambique, Mexico, and the UK. His research focuses on pharmaceutical policies, human resources for health, and global health aid architecture, with a regional emphasis on Africa and Latin America.

Dr. Russo teaches courses on medicines and pharmaceutical markets at QMUL and leads the PhD program in Global Public Health. He is a Co-Investigator on projects funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), including studies on physician dual practice in Mozambique/South Africa and lay mental health interventions in Vietnam/Cambodia. Past projects include analyzing the economic crisis impact on Brazil's health system and the effects of the pandemic on African health services.

His supervision includes PhD candidates researching social health insurance in Kenya and mother-child healthcare in Guinea-Bissau. Research interests include health workers' dual practice, pandemic impacts on healthcare, and health system resilience in fragile states.
