Gita Canaran

Gita Canaran is an Adjunct Professor and Clinical Psychologist affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at Western University. She holds an M.A. and is a Certified Psychologist (C. Psych.) with specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, EMDR, and attachment issues in adulthood. Her clinical expertise focuses on psychosis and trauma, particularly the impact of Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs) and disordered attachment.

She previously contributed to MRI and psychopharmacology research in schizophrenia at Western University and McMaster University. As adjunct faculty, she supervises psychiatry residents in CBT and delivers an annual lecture on Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) to PGY4 residents. Additionally, she co-chairs the Traumatic Psychosis Community of Practice and serves on the Board of Directors for OAPA, while maintaining a small private practice.
