Giselle G. Hamad

Dr. Giselle G. Hamad is a Professor of Surgery and Associate Dean of Clinical Faculty Affairs at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). She holds an MD from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Chemistry from MIT. Her roles include overseeing clinical faculty and serving as a liaison between NEOMED and clinical education sites. She previously practiced minimally invasive bariatric and general surgery for over 20 years and has held leadership roles in surgical education, including an endowed professorship at the University of Pittsburgh and residency program directorships.

Dr. Hamad's education includes a B.S. in Chemistry with a Music minor from MIT and an MD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She also pursued a Master’s Degree in Learning, Design, and Technology from Penn State.

Her research interests focus on surgical education, minimally invasive techniques, bariatric surgery outcomes, and patient safety. Key topics include incisional hernia prevention, venous thromboembolism management in bariatric patients, and surgical training methodologies. Her work bridges clinical practice and education, emphasizing mentorship and innovation in surgical training.

Dr. Hamad's awards include the University of Pittsburgh Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award, Richard L. Simmons Mentorship Award, and the Henry T. Bahnson Resident Teaching Award. Her contributions to surgical education have been recognized through the namesake award for medical student mentoring.

In teaching and advising, she has mentored numerous residents and medical students, emphasizing peer coaching and evidence-based education strategies. Her involvement in grants and educational programs focuses on improving surgical training and clinical education frameworks.

Dr. Hamad is actively involved in research initiatives at NEOMED, contributing to publications on surgical techniques, patient outcomes, and educational innovations. She collaborates with institutions to enhance interprofessional education and clinical research programs.
