Gina Ogilvie is Professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Population & Public Health, Senior Public Health Scientist at the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), Senior Research Advisor at BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre, and Assistant Director of the Women's Health Research Institute.
Dr. Ogilvie earned her medical degree from McMaster University, followed by a fellowship in population health. She completed her MSc in clinical epidemiology at UBC focusing on HIV-positive women care, and her DrPH in HPV primary screening at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Her educational background combines clinical medicine with advanced public health training.
Her research program spans reproductive health, HPV infection and vaccines, HIV in women, care for marginalized populations, and sexually transmitted infections. Dr. Ogilvie's work has significantly influenced health policy both nationally and globally, particularly her landmark 2018 study demonstrating HPV screening's superiority over Pap tests for cervical cancer detection. She leads the ASPIRE program and QUEST HPV Study at the Vaccine Evaluation Center.
Dr. Ogilvie has received numerous prestigious awards including dual ASTRA Achievement Awards (2021, 2020), UBC Killam Faculty Research Prize (2020), and YWCA Woman of Distinction (2018). She holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Global Control of HPV Related Disease and Cancer and is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Canada and Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
As principal investigator, she has secured over $10 million in research funding from PHAC, CIHR, Michael Smith Foundation, Canadian Foundation for Innovation, and private foundations. With more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, she provides expert consultation to Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, Public Health Agency of Canada, and World Health Organization on STI, HIV, and HPV vaccine policy.
Dr. Ogilvie leads research teams focused on HPV-related disease control and cancer prevention, with emphasis on improving screening methods and vaccine implementation strategies globally. Her work bridges clinical practice, public health policy, and global health equity.
