Gina Chorover is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Landscape Architecture and Planning at the University of Arizona and serves as faculty chair for the Heritage Conservation Graduate Certificate program. She teaches core courses including American Design on the Land (LAR 150b), Parks and Urban Public Spaces (LAR 350), and Documentation and Interpretation of the Historic Built Environment (LAR 497j/597j), having developed ten distinct courses throughout her academic career at CAPLA (College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture).
Her educational background encompasses a Master of Landscape Architecture, a Graduate Certificate in Heritage Conservation, and a Master of Science in Business Administration. Prior professional experience includes roles as a certified planner (AICP) for the City of Tucson and Pima County, coordination of the Master of Real Estate Development program at UA, and service as Arizona's Historic American Landscapes Coordinator through ASLA.
Chorover's research centers on cultural and historic landscape documentation, with field projects at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Petrified Forest National Park, and San Xavier del Bac. Her work integrates heritage conservation with climate vulnerability assessments for Southwestern missions and emphasizes placemaking sociologies in urban public spaces. Current initiatives examine how crowd-sourced technology can advance social justice in neighborhood planning processes.
She received the Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission Historic Preservation Award in May 2024 for co-authoring the Quitobaquito Cultural Landscape Report at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. This work exemplifies her commitment to preserving culturally significant landscapes through rigorous documentation and community engagement.
As an active professional, Chorover serves on the Board of Directors for the Alliance for Historic Landscape Preservation and contributes to the Drachman Institute's community resilience initiatives. Her teaching and research consistently bridge academic theory with practical planning applications, particularly in the Grant-Alvernon neighborhoods of Tucson.
