Current projects explore Regency 'Flash' culture across Britain, Ireland, and Australia, Charles Lamb’s social networks, and political ephemera in early 19th-century Britain.
A Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, Russell has secured significant grants from the Australian Research Council, including a 2010–2015 Professorial Fellowship. She has supervised PhD research on topics like queer historiography of the Ladies of Llangollen, military memoirs in Romanticism, and the political dimensions of eighteenth-century songs.
Her work bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary cultural studies, emphasizing material culture, social networks, and the intersection of literature with historical events like war.
