Dr Gillian Robinson serves as an Honorary Fellow at the Institute for Education, Teaching & Leadership (IETL) within the Moray House School of Education and Sport at the University of Edinburgh. She actively contributes to postgraduate teaching and PhD supervision while maintaining partnerships with schools to advance practitioner-led educational research.
Her research centers on career-long professional development for educators, emphasizing practitioner inquiry and collaborative action research methodologies. She explores leadership frameworks for learning environments and investigates language/literacy pedagogies through whole-school implementation projects. Her work bridges theoretical research with classroom practice, focusing on teacher autonomy, agency development, and physical education pedagogy.
Dr Robinson supervises doctoral candidates including Kenneth Moffat (examining lifelong learning through autoethnography), Ritchie Dunk (mapping teacher autonomy and agency), and Paul MacMillan (analyzing PE instructional practices). She teaches core modules for the MEd Leadership and Learning program, guiding educational professionals through self-study enquiry and practitioner research methodologies.
