Dr. Justine MacLean is a Lecturer in Physical Education and Programme Director for Year 3 of the MA (Hons) Physical Education at the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh. Her academic career spans over two decades, combining teaching, research, and leadership roles in physical education. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh (2015-2018), focusing on teacher agency during educational reform, alongside a BEd (Hons) from Heriot-Watt University and an MEd in Advanced Educational Studies.
Her research interests center on teacher agency, resilience, curriculum reform, and sociocultural perspectives in education. She actively investigates how educators navigate policy changes and foster student resilience through pedagogical practices. Current projects include a British Academy-funded study on teacher collaboration and technology use during the COVID-19 crisis.
Justine is affiliated with the Physical Education Forum, Pedagogy, Curriculum and Learning research group, and collaborates across disciplines including Sports Science and Primary Education. She has reviewed for journals like Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy and presented at conferences such as BERA and AIESEP. Her teaching spans curriculum design, physical literacy, and sociocultural themes in PE.
