Associate Professor Gill Kirk is the Associate Dean (Early Childhood) and Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University (ECU). With over 20 years in early childhood education, her expertise spans classroom teaching, consultancy, and university-level academic roles. She holds a PhD from Murdoch University (2014) and a Bachelor of Education with Honours from ECU (2001).
Her research focuses on pedagogical practices supporting children’s social and emotional development, implementation of the National Quality Standard in early learning and school contexts, and strategies to enhance student retention in higher education. Notable projects include the Amplify 2 study on school improvement and Little Aussie Bugs, a health literacy initiative.
Recent publications address pre-service teacher development, health literacy in early childhood, and psychological needs of postgraduate students. She has secured grants totaling over $91,000 for projects like Maximising Student Engagement (AISWA, 2019–2020) and Personal Values and Wellbeing in Remote Aboriginal Communities (ECU, 2023–2024).
As a supervisor, she leads PhD and Master’s students in topics ranging from early childhood musical experiences to teacher self-efficacy. Her work emphasizes equity, leadership, and evidence-based practices in education.
