Gilberto Roque is a Lecturer at the School of Creative Arts, University of Southern Queensland. A filmmaker and cinematographer with expertise in 360-degree virtual reality (VR) technology, he has worked on documentary and film projects across continents.

- Studies in journalism/film, Brazil, and drama at National Conservatory of Drama, Dublin
His research focuses on VR cinematography, immersive storytelling, and technical problem-solving in extreme conditions. Notably, he served as Cinematographer/Associate Producer for the Holocaust-themed VR documentary Sorella’s Story, which premiered at Venice Immersive 2022.
This work involved innovative approaches to 360-degree filmmaking, including:
- Managing camera stitching limitations
- Optimizing battery performance in subzero temperatures
- Coordinating actor blocking in 360 environments
He received the 2022 ACS Gold Award for Art Innovation Cinematography and continues to explore the intersection of technology and historical narrative in his academic and creative practice.
