Tomasz Michałowski (born April 2, 1964 in Augustów) is a distinguished cinematographer and academic at the National Film School in Łódź, where he serves as a Professor in the Faculty of Cinematography and Television Production. He graduated from the Cinematography Department in 1994, earned his PhD in film arts in 2018, and received his habilitation degree in 2024, qualifying him for professorship in the field of art, specifically film and theatre arts.
His extensive career spans over three decades in cinematography, with more than 200 film credits as camera operator, director, and cinematographer across feature films, documentaries, television series, and student productions. He has received numerous awards for his cinematographic work, including the prestigious Decoration Medal of the National Education Commission in 2024.
Professor Michałowski's research and creative interests focus on documentary filmmaking techniques, visual storytelling, and the intersection of social issues with cinematic expression. His work demonstrates particular expertise in nature documentaries, historical narratives, and social issue documentaries that explore Polish identity and culture.
