Dr. Gilbert Émond is a full-time Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Human Sciences at Concordia University, where he has been employed since July 2005 and tenured in 2010. Prior to his academic career, he spent 20 years in government, community research, private organizations, and university teaching in organizational communications and sexology.

Dr. Émond's research focuses on gay and homosexual men's sexuality, HIV prevention, homophobia and violence, applied research methods, and chaos and complexity theories in human systems. His work includes community-based HIV testing interventions for Black and migrant communities in Montreal, analysis of HIV stigma dynamics among men who have sex with men (MSM), and studies on school homophobia's impact on educational outcomes for sexual minorities.
His recent publications span psychosocial challenges for HIV-positive MSM, organizational communication theory, and sexual health policy analysis. He has collaborated on projects like SPOT (Pro-active Intervention to Limit HIV Transmission among MSM) and has served as Principal Investigator for MITACS and CIHR grants. Dr. Émond also co-led the Concordia Research Center on Sexuality and has contributed to community interventions at events like the ACFAS Congress on overdose crisis reduction.
