Dr. Gideon Bolt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University's Faculty of Geosciences. His work focuses on urban redevelopment, migration housing, and inclusive urban policy. He leads and contributes to interdisciplinary research projects such as 'Redeveloping urban neighborhoods through community involvement' (2024-2028) and 'Urban housing of migrants in China and the Netherlands' (2020-2024), addressing challenges in housing, social inclusion, and urban sustainability. He teaches courses including Advanced Urban Geography, Neighbourhoods and Crime, and Urban Social Dynamics.
Recent research emphasizes living lab methodologies in neighborhoods like Overvecht (Utrecht), integrating residents and stakeholders into urban planning. He collaborates with institutions like GeLUK (Gezonde Leefomgeving Utrecht Kennisconsortium) and has secured grants from NWO, Erasmus+, and ZonMw. His work bridges academia and practice, aiming to enhance socially sustainable urban environments.
He has advised projects on precarious housing in Europe (PusH, 2019-2022) and inclusive sports access (CISE, 2019-2023), fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across EU member states and Sino-Dutch partnerships. His contributions include developing practical tools for urban planners and social workers to improve community engagement in urban development.
