Univ.-Prof. Christa Reicher holds the Chair of Urban Design and European Urbanism at RWTH Aachen University’s Faculty of Architecture. She previously served as a professor at TU Dortmund and Bochum University of Applied Sciences. Since 2014, she has been Spokeswoman of the Progress College 'Energy Efficiency in the Neighbourhood' and chairs the Advisory Board for Vienna’s ASPERN Lakeside City development. Her career spans over three decades, including founding RHA Architects & Urban Planners in 1993 and extensive collaboration with planning offices since 1987.
She studied Architecture at RWTH Aachen and ETH Zurich (1979–1987). Her research focuses on urban development strategies, cultural heritage integration, sustainability, resilience, housing policy, and European urbanism. Key projects include the ResourcePlan initiative for resource-efficient neighborhoods and studies on Amazon deforestation’s socio-environmental impacts.
Reicher’s work emphasizes inclusive urban design, adaptive planning frameworks, and addressing challenges in post-industrial regions like the Ruhr area. She advocates for balancing density and social diversity through innovative housing models and vertical neighborhoods. Her awards include the 2021 Johannes-Göderitz-Preis, recognizing contributions to urban design. Active in professional boards, she advises on national urban policies and heritage protection strategies.
