Dr. Gerald Mollenhorst is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning, Utrecht University, Netherlands. His research focuses on social networks, urban geography, and sociology, examining how contextual factors influence personal networks and life outcomes. He holds a PhD in Sociology (cum laude) from Utrecht University (2009), following a Master's (2004) and Bachelor's (2002) in Economics and Sociology.
Research Interests: His work analyzes how social contexts shape personal networks, particularly among youth, immigrants, prisoners, and entrepreneurs. Key themes include network dynamics, social capital, urban development, and interdisciplinary collaboration with criminologists and economists. He leads projects on sustainable urban redevelopment in Overvecht and sport club integrity against undermining crime.
Grants & Projects: He coordinates the 'Redeveloping urban neighborhoods through community involvement' (2024–2028), focusing on participatory urban planning.
