Dr. Ghasan Baghdadi is a Lecturer in Finance at La Trobe Business School, La Trobe University. He holds a PhD in Finance from La Trobe University and an MA in Finance from the same institution. Prior to his current role, he served as Assistant Professor at Arab Open University and Lecturer at RMIT University, teaching courses including Financial Markets and Corporate Finance.
His research focuses on empirical corporate finance, corporate governance, and financial accounting. Key investigations include how board characteristics (independence, gender diversity, co-option) influence firm risk and misconduct; how CEO attributes (generalism, risk-seeking behavior, ethnicity) impact corporate outcomes; and how market conditions affect firm performance during crises.
Recent publications examine default risk factors, managerial efficiency, and corporate responses to economic policy uncertainty. Methodologically, his work employs large-scale empirical analyses of firm-level data across multiple economies. Industry recognition includes the La Trobe Business School Research Excellence Award (2023) for impactful finance research.
Dr. Baghdadi contributes academic service through the Community of Practice Low Risk Human Ethics Committee and develops courses in Corporate Finance and Financial Statement Analysis. His research on board governance and CEO effects has received coverage in Bloomberg and Money Management.
