معرفی
Geunyoung Kim is a Britton Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University. Previously, they completed a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Georgia in 2024 under the supervision of David Gay. Kim's research focuses on topological aspects of manifolds in dimensions 4 and 5, and the interplay between low and high dimensions.
Education:
- PhD in Mathematics, University of Georgia, 2024
Kim's primary research interests span low-dimensional topology and high-dimensional topology. They investigate 4-manifolds, surfaces embedded in 4-manifolds, 5-manifolds, and the interactions between 4- and 5-manifolds. A significant part of their work involves generalizing phenomena observed in low dimensions to higher dimensions, contributing to the broader field of geometric topology. Their research sits at the intersection of algebraic and differential topology, with implications for understanding the structure of manifolds.
Scientific Awards:
- Britton Postdoctoral Fellowship
Kim collaborates closely with professors Hans Boden, Ian Hambleton, and Patrick Naylor at McMaster University. Their work is conducted within the topology group of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and they maintain an active role in the academic community through seminars and collaborations.
