Akram Alishahi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Georgia. She received her PhD in Mathematics from Sharif University of Technology in 2014, followed by postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics (Bonn) and as a Ritt Assistant Professor at Columbia University.
Her research focuses on low-dimensional topology and knot theory, with specialized interests in Heegaard Floer homology and Khovanov homology. Her work explores invariants for 3-manifolds and knots, bordered algebras, and 4-manifold theory.
She directs multiple NSF-funded projects including a CAREER grant (DMS-2238103) and has led REU programs on topics like Knot Floer homology and 4-manifolds. She organizes the Georgia Topology Conference and UGA Topology Seminar.
