Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerson Meschut serves as Speaker of the Collaborative Research Center Transregio 285 and Head of the Institute for Lightweight Construction with Hybrid Systems (ILH) at the University of Paderborn. His leadership roles include Board of Directors for ILH and coordination of multiple research subprojects (A01, C02, Z).
His research interests focus on lightweight construction, mechanical joining technologies, and resource-efficient manufacturing processes. His work bridges materials science with practical automotive applications, particularly in developing adaptable process chains for mechanical joining. His research addresses critical industry challenges in thermal management, structural integrity, and sustainable production methods.
Recent publications (2025) demonstrate strong focus on mechanical joining processes, with emphasis on plastic components, thermal interface materials, and multi-material joining solutions. His work shows consistent application to automotive lightweight structures with strong industry relevance.
Prof. Meschut actively teaches numerous courses including Project Seminar on Lightweight Construction, Mechanical Joining Processes, and Adhesive Bonding Technologies. His current research portfolio includes multiple subprojects under TRR 285 focusing on method development for mechanical joining in adaptable process chains.
His laboratory work centers around the Institute for Lightweight Construction with Hybrid Systems, where he leads research on innovative joining technologies with applications across automotive and structural engineering sectors.
