Prof. Elmar Moritzer is a Professor of Plastics Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Paderborn. He holds roles as Werkstattbeauftragter and serves on the Vorstand ILH und FK LEM committee. His research focuses on sustainable materials engineering, composite materials, and advanced manufacturing processes. He is affiliated with the Institute for Lightweight Design with Hybrid Systems and previously contributed to the Direct Manufacturing Research Center (DMRC) until 2022.
His research emphasizes fiber-reinforced polymers, thermal conductivity in additive manufacturing, and material joining technologies. Current teaching includes courses on polymer processing, materials science, and simulation methods in plastics technology. Prof. Moritzer’s recent work explores acoustic wave-based material characterization and practical aspects of hybrid material joining.
He advises courses ranging from material characterization to automotive design and leads projects involving statistical experimental planning. His work bridges academic research with industrial applications in lightweight design and sustainable materials innovation.
