Prof. Gerhard Dannemann is a Professor of English Law, British Economy and Politics and Director of the Centre for British Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He holds advanced degrees including Dr jur. (1994) and Dr jur. habil. (2002) from Freiburg i.Br. His career includes roles as a University Lecturer and Reader in Comparative Law at the University of Oxford (1994–2002), Fellow of Worcester College (1995–2002), and Visiting Lecturer at University College London (1992–1995).
Research Interests: His work focuses on comparative legal systems, contract law, tort law, unjust enrichment, and private international law. He also advocates for academic integrity standards. He founded the Oxford University Comparative Law Forum and German Law Archive, and serves as a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Institute of European and Comparative Law.
Academic Contributions: Co-reporter for the European Law Institute’s Model Rules for Online Platforms project. He was a founding member of the Acquis Group (European Research Group on Existing EC Private Law), leading its Redaction Committee and Terminology Group.
Teaching: At the M.A. British Studies programme, he teaches core modules like ‘English Legal System’, ‘Contracts’, and ‘Commercial Law’, and co-teaches ‘Constitutional Law and Political System’.
