Aurelia Colombi Ciacchi

Prof. Aurelia Colombi Ciacchi holds the endowed chair in Law and Governance at the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Law. Her roles include academic director of the Groningen Centre for Law and Governance (2010–2016) and leadership in international research networks such as the ‘Immoral Contracts in Europe’ project. She has extensive experience in comparative law, European Union legal frameworks, and governance studies.

• Key Positions: Full Professor at University of Groningen (2010–present), Marie Curie Fellow at University of Oxford (2004–2005), Senior Researcher at University of Bremen (2007–2010).

Her research focuses on European private law harmonization, fundamental rights in private litigation, and governance dynamics. She has coordinated major projects like the ‘Protection from Unfair Suretyships’ (EU-funded, 2004–2007) and ‘Fundamental Rights and Private Law in the EU’ (2002–2006), resulting in influential publications such as Fundamental Rights and Private Law in the European Union (2010).

Teaching includes courses on European Law, Legal English, and Comparative Law methodologies. She has mentored numerous doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, contributing to academic leadership roles in the Netherlands and internationally.

Prof. Colombi Ciacchi is Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Comparative Law and Governance and a member of prestigious organizations like the European Law Institute and the Dutch Network of Women Professors.
