Charlotte Pavillon is a Professor of Private Law, specializing in Consumer Law at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Law. Her research focuses on enhancing consumer protection through transparent contractual practices, combating unfair commercial tactics, and balancing national/EU legal frameworks. She advocates for equitable enforcement of consumer rights, emphasizing deterrence and proportionality in sanctions.
Education: Studied International Relations and European Law at the University of Groningen, earned a PhD with a thesis on 'Open standards in European consumer law.'
Research interests include European private law, contractual transparency, and the interplay between national and EU regulations. She emphasizes the need for effective sanctions against businesses violating consumer rights, such as misleading terms or false discounts.
In addition to academia, Pavillon serves as a deputy judge at the North Netherlands District Court and a member of Kifid's Appeals Committee. Her recent work addresses EU consumer law case notes, contractual clarity, and the evolving role of consumer protection in a circular economy.
