معرفی
Dr. Gerald Brosch is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Molecular Biology, Biocenter, Medical University of Innsbruck. He holds leadership roles in the Molecular Medicine Bachelor's and Master's programs and co-leads the Chromatin- and Epigenetics Laboratory with Stefan Grässle. His research focuses on histone modifications in filamentous fungi, specifically exploring their roles in gene regulation, fungal virulence, and secondary metabolite production. He has contributed to identifying histone methyltransferases (PRMTs) and deacetylases (HDACs) in Aspergillus species, linking these epigenetic mechanisms to disease and drug development.
Education includes a PhD in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Innsbruck (1994) and an Habilitation in Biochemistry from Innsbruck Medical University (2006). He has held an APART fellowship (2001–2006) and leads projects funded by the Austrian Science Foundation (FWF).
Research highlights include characterizing HDAC complexes in fungi, developing inhibitors targeting histone-modifying enzymes, and elucidating the functional roles of arginine methylation in Aspergillus. His work bridges basic epigenetic mechanisms with applications in antifungal drug discovery and understanding fungal pathogenicity.
